Active Minds is a national organization focused on raising mental health awareness, fighting mental health stigma, and inspiring positive change on college campuses. Our chapter works with UHS, UCC, and various student organizations and organizes campus-wide events aiming at educating the student body on issues of mental health, challenging stigmatizing beliefs, and providing a safe and positive environment for students to share their experiences. We also have a voice in conversations with college administration regarding the campus climate surrounding mental health and mental healthcare.

The UR Baja SAE team is a student-run, non-profit organization which designs, fabricates, tests,
and competes with a single-seater off-road vehicle. From mechanical and biomedical engineering

Whether you have built a car from scratch or have never touched a wrench in your life, we will
utilize any your experience and will teach you designing, manufacturing, and testing methods.

We work part of the summer and throughout the school year designing, manufacturing and
testing our car in preparation for national competitions held across the United States. Design is a
huge component of what we do. Our team offers students a hands-on approach to engineering as
it provides a practical application of classroom-based learning.
Using everything from angle grinders to lathes, we manufacture a majority of the Baja car
ourselves each year.

The Ballet Performance Group at University of Rochester aims to provide an outlet for individuals who seek to learn and perform all styles of dance while encouraging an awareness and appreciation of classical ballet. Our group's foremost goal is to keep ballet technique alive on campus by using it as a foundation for all of the styles we perform. We welcome all levels of experience and offer dances that challenge and enhance the diverse abilities of our members. Every year, we put together two shows composed of classical ballet and student-choreographed pieces. We also perform as guest groups in other University venues. As a member of BPG, you choose the number of dances you wish to participate in; one dance corresponds to one hour of practice per week. Based on your academic and extra-curricular schedule, you can be as involved as you would like!

The goal of BMES is to "promote the profession of Biomedical Engineering through study, research and discussion of the fields of Biomedical Engineering." The BMES encourages student interaction and collaboration and allows the students to come together under a common banner. Our university chapter is also a great place for discussion of issues that a Biomedical Engineering student may have.
The University of Rochester BMES is active in hosting a wide variety of academic, social, mentoring, and career focused events. The Campus Times (CT), UR's official student-produced newspaper, has served the university community since 1873.

All articles are written and edited by students. The CT publishes weekly edition on Mondays during the academic year that can be found on our website, campustimes.org. Once a month, we also publish that content to a print edition.

Students can join the staff at any point during the school year, and may contribute as much and as often as they'd like. No prior experience is necessary, and no long-term commitment is required.

Students may submit articles to our News, Opinions, Features, Humor, Culture, and Sports sections, in addition to contributing photos, illustrations, and videos. Students may also copy edit articles by checking for spelling, grammatical, and factual errors. Our engagement coordinator also helps get writers started, and troubleshoots any problems that writers might run into, so feel free to reach out to them!

We are the University of Rochester's Irish Dance club! UR Celtic was formed in 2007 by two champion Irish Dancers in an effort to spread Irish culture at the University of Rochester. We teach and perform both traditional and modern Irish dance to all levels of dancers.

In the fall, we compete at the Villanova Intercollegiate Irish Dance Festival, and in the spring we have our annual showcase. We also perform at various campus events, like Celebrate Diversity, the InspireDANCE Festival, for St. Patrick's Day, at charities and fundraisers, and with other dance groups. Recently, we have worked with BPG, Sihir, and GlobeMed.

The purpose of the University of Rochester College Feminists is to educate the university community about comprehensive feminist issues to encourage activism on campus and beyond. In doing so, we discuss gender identity and gender-based issues, in the context of how gender intersects with race, culture, sexuality, and other marginalized experiences. We aim to enhance the campus community by raising awareness of intersectionality, inclusivity, diversity, and equity. We welcome all community members and will not enforce a single culture of feminism. In our efforts to educate and involve the community in feminist dialogue, we also partner with Planned Parenthood as a Generation Action Chapter to advocate for gender equity, sexual health, and reproductive freedom on campus.

The club meets Tuesdays at 8PM in the Welles-Brown Room of Rush Rhees Library and is open to students of all majors and political affiliations. Expect at meetings to discuss national and international politics, hear from local politicians, and discuss important issues. In addition to weekly meetings, the club regularly hosts political events around campus as well as social events for club members.

The community service network is the bridge between the University and the Rochester Community. We host 2 major events, Be the Change Day and King for a Day. We work with the University to approve new community service groups like UR Red Cross, over see budgeting for Alternative Spring Break trips (a.k.a Service trips), etc. We work with the community to host talks from non-profits leaders in the area this series is known as Breaking the Bubble. CSN works closely with RCCL and Rochester Cares. Most importantly, CSN offers support to the community service organizations on campus. We are considered the umbrella club for almost all of the community service groups and work with them to facilitate collaborative work and service in the greater Rochester area.

Grassroots strives to make an impact both on and off campus. UR Habitat for Humanity shares Habitat for Humanity International's mission of eliminating poverty housing and homelessness from the world, and making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. The campus chapter seeks to strengthen the University, Rochester, and larger communities through building quality, safe, affordable housing for people in need, raising funds to support building efforts, and learning and teaching about housing issues. Our ultimate (and ongoing) goal is to raise enough money to sponsor a Habitat house. Throughout the year we host a series of fundraising events such as: Shelf-a-thon, Pie Sale, and more. While we work to raise the money to sponsor a house ($10,000), we help build Habitat houses in the Rochester area and every spring break organize a trip to another area that needs help building affordable, reliable housing.

UR Kendo is a group created in 2003 to bring the practice of the Japanese martial art kendo and its sword styles to the UR campus. We are open to anyone and no previous martial arts experience or skill level is required. Our club also includes an iaido component.
Melding the best of all the ancient samurai traditions it draws from, present day kendo seeks a balance between the sport and the martial art. The word kendo itself means "the way of the sword." It can be divided into three main components: the way of the body (the physical training of the body both on its own and wielding the sword), the way of the sword (learning the timing, execution, movement of the strike), and the way of the mind (the cultivation of correct mental attitudes such as focus, respect, patience, and perseverance, and other attitudes influenced by Zen Buddhist philosophy).
A sparring match in Kendo consists of two participants wearing bogu (a modern version of protective samurai armor) attempting to hit their opponent on one of four specific strike spots: men (head), do (abdomen), kote (wrists) or tsuki (neck). Kendo today is practiced with either shinai (bamboo sword) or bokken/bokuto (wooden training sword). Sparring is done only with shinai.
The way of the sword is not something one knows but something one is continually learning and always striving to grow physically, mentally, and spiritually closer to.

This club allows students to play on an ice hockey team at the University of Rochester. With our school not having a varsity team, this organization will enable hockey-playing students to continue to play their sport at a competitive level in the Upstate New York Club Hockey League (UNYCHL). Hockey is a unique sport that is extremely popular in Western New York and the northeast, in general, so it makes sense for U of R to have a team that permits students to continue playing at a university level. The Genesee Valley Park Ice Arena, which is just across the bridge on Elmwood Avenue, also provides a convenient location for our team to play and store our equipment in a locker room.

While the Ice Hockey Club looks to put a talented group together for competitive UNYCHL games, we realize that it's merely a club sport and that grades come first. Members are excused from practice if they have academic conflicts and games only take place on weekends. On the ice, we will try to achieve excellence by winning. However, instilling leadership qualities, promoting teamwork, increasing communication ability among teammates and between members and our coach, and stressing diligence and discipline are of greater significance. Off the ice, members will have an opportunity to attain leadership, organizational, and communication skills by taking positions that mediate between the team and the coach, the UNYCHL, Student Activities, and UR admins. Our organization will also look to volunteer as a group, especially for the Genesee Valley Youth Hockey Club. In a simpler sense, the U of R Ice Hockey Club will allow members to add to team camaraderie and meet new friends.

Off Broadway On Campus was formed to provide a venue for University of Rochester students to perform musical theater and be able to bring musical theater as a form of entertainment to the University of Rochester community as a whole. The group strives to bring musical theater shows to life in a professional fashion, while having fun and exploring its members' individual talents.

Membership Benefits
OBOC is the University of Rochester's longest-running musical theater group. Each semester, we present a musical revue with numbers from a great variety of Broadway and Off-Broadway shows. The revues are produced, directed, choreographed, accompanied with a pit orchestra, musically arranged, costumed, and performed entirely by students.

Auditions play a role in casting several smaller numbers, but the group is open to anyone who enjoys musical theater. Currently, our ranks has swelled to over seventy singers, dancers, and musicians!

We put on musical revues every semester comprised of around 16-20 songs, all from different musicals. Our fall revue generally happens around mid-November while our spring revue happens around mid-April. A song may not be used more than once every four years to ensure that every revue while at the University of Rochester is a new and fun experience for everyone involved!

Our weekly trips have historically included the following (and much, much more):
Day hikes, Backpacking, Cabin Camping, Canoeing/Kayaking, Rock Climbing (indoor), X-Country Skiing, White Water Rafting, Pumpkin and Apple Picking, Corn Maze, Orienteering, Snow-shoeing, Picnics.

If you have your own trip planned, we rent tents, stoves, backpacks, sleeping bags, sleeping pads, bear canisters, etc. Contact the Gear Manager or President if you have any questions.

University of Rochester Peers for Animal Wellness and Safety (P.A.W.S.) serves to connect University of Rochester undergraduate students with animal service organizations in Monroe County. The purpose of this cooperative effort will be to provide the materials and assistance necessary in order to more efficiently run local shelters and rescues for the benefit of the animals and the eventual establishment of a No Kill Nation. Students will benefit from one on one interactions with animals in an effort to reduce stress and the negative effects associated with attending a competitive university. Students will also learn how to collaborate with other like minded groups and individuals in order to operate in a way that helps to improve the lives of animals in Monroe County.

Phoenix Fire dedicates to introduce Classical Chinese dance to everyone and to add diversity of dancing to the campus. We provide opportunities for everyone to explore, learn and perform Classical Chinese dance while hoping to inspire the understanding and appreciation of it.

We welcome everyone with all levels of experience and members can choose their own piece of interest for their performance repertoire. There will be tutors to facilitate the practices every week and we will work together to enjoy the performances and the annual showcase.
