About Us

Hospice Organization for Physical and Emotional Education teaches students about end-of-life care, dying, and how to communicate with and support those who are grieving. As a result, students will gain a forum for conversations about death and grief and will come closer to the understanding that death makes life more beautiful.

What is Hospice?

Hospice is palliative care for those who are in the last few months of their lives. The primary goal is to help those in our care as comfortable as possible (while maintaining their dignity) so that their journey is as smooth as possible.

Comfort care is one branch of hospice. Typically outside a hospital or clinical setting, comfort care homes in New York typically are in repurposed houses, housing at most two residents at a time. Homes are usually staffed with volunteers and nurses.

How the Club started

HOPE Edu is based on the Hospice program offered at The Harley School in Brighton, NY. It is one of the only programs in the nation that educates high school students about holistic end-of-life care. This club was started to help extend this knowledge and training to other undergraduate students to let them discover a more intimate side of healthcare, help them gain clinical hours, and contribute to the community through volunteering in comfort care homes around the area.

Members Benefits

By being a part of HOPE Edu, you get to see a part of medicine and healthcare not often seen in the public eye. From exploring the human concept of death to hands-on skills to help care for those in their last days to help them experience the most comfort, we discuss all matters regarding the physical and mental aspects of hospice care. For those interested in pursuing a career in healthcare, opportunities to volunteer at comfort care homes and other opportunities in the Greater Rochester area are also some of the benefits of joining our club.
