Community Guidelines

oSTEM UR

To ensure that each member has a safe and authentic space in which to experience oSTEM events, we have adopted the following guidelines (on top of oSTEM Global’s Code of Conduct) which we expect to be honored and upheld by all individuals participating, organizing, or involved in oSTEM events.

Camera Use

Please refrain from taking pictures/videos in oSTEM spaces (GMMs, speaker events, study hours, etc.) unless given explicit permission by E-Board and relevant members/guests. If E-Board will take pictures (ie. publicity) or stream a meeting (ie. Zoom guest), we will let you know beforehand!

Pronouns

Default to using they/them pronouns exclusively when referring to someone whose pronouns you don’t know at our events. Some people are in a tricky place with their gender identity, avoid asking others for their pronouns. Feel free to share your pronouns as a soft prompting for theirs, but if they don’t specify, keep to they/them!

Misc.

Be kind and respectful with a willingness to learn. oSTEM UR believes in an environment that is inclusive, supportive, and free of transphobia, homophobia, biphobia, panphobia, or transmisogyny, ableism & bodyshaming, racism, classism, and hate speech of any kind.

oSTEM Global

As an official oSTEM collegiate chapter, we share the same vision, mission, and Code of Conduct.

Purpose

oSTEM Global holds Integrity, Intentionality, Respect, Passion, and Grit as our values. In order to uphold these values we have created a Code of Conduct which we expect to be honored and upheld by all individuals participating, organizing, or involved in oSTEM events.

The oSTEM Code of Conduct is intended to promote an environment for professional development and personal growth by strictly prohibiting the behaviors outlined. Unacceptable behavior is subject to disciplinary action as outlined in this code. oSTEM reserves the right to identify other behaviors not listed herein.

Misconduct

Anyone who receives a report of or suspects a Code of Conduct violation should report the violation to beaware@ostem.org.

oSTEM representatives must not promise anonymity to someone who is reporting a violation. Representatives should indicate that the report will be confidential within oSTEM. Reporters will have a role in deciding what actions are, or are not, taken. oSTEM representatives MUST maintain confidentiality and not share incident details with others unless instructed to do so at the conclusion of this process or unless required to do so by law.
