Welcome to Garden of Hope 2020!

Garden of Hope is Active Minds' annual event for suicide awareness and prevention.

On average, 1100 college students die by suicide every year.

Each of the pinwheels you see here represents just one student.

The statistics are sobering, sad, and surprising. We are taking this day to remember and memorialize those that have been lost. More importantly, we are taking this day to discuss how WE (as individuals, students, friends, and community members) can PREVENT suicide.

What can you do to help?

Attend

Attend our panel, Suicide Prevention: Beyond the Hotline to hear from suicide prevention experts. We will be discussing some of the lesser-known and recognized things that we ALL can do to prevent suicide.

Know the resources

It is important to KNOW your resources. What would you do if a friend disclosed that they are feeling suicidal? What would you do if a friend didn't seem to be feeling or acting right? How could you help them, whether they are feeling suicidal or not?

A good place to start is here

Break the stigma

Watch how you talk about mental health. Are you perpetuating the stigma? Take a moment to reflect.

Listen to what the UR community has to say...

We asked... "why do you speak"? Here's what UR students had to say.
