Queers Read This!

Hello friends! Happy Monday, sorry to bombard you with many emails recently, I promise this will also be pretty short. I would make a presidential debate joke, but let’s be honest if you’ve been keeping up with the news the jokes write themselves (For the record I can confidently say dogs and cats taste like nothing cuz I’ve never eaten them before).
Anyways, we have a GMM this Wednesday, and some exciting things to share with you all, so please keep reading to find out more.

This Week

Join us this Wednesday (September 18) for our General Member Meeting (GMM), from 7-8 pm at Douglass 401. We will be having a presentation on networking and how to make connections and put yourself out there! For all my fellow introverts, I know it might seem tough but don’t worry, you will get through it!

We also have an exciting new development: study hours!! We will be starting our biweekly study sessions this Sunday (sept 22) from 6-8pm in Douglass 403! We will have tutors to help out with anything you need, ranging from physics to calculus! Please come and stop by, whether you want some extra tutoring or assistance or just want to pop by and see what’s up.

- GEM Recruitment Event at RIT: Registration Form

The University of Rochester is co-hosting an event on RIT’s campus: the Fall 2024 GEM Getting Ready for Advanced Degrees Laboratory (GRAD Lab) on Saturday, September 21, 2024. This FREE event features a Graduate Resource Fair where you can meet department faculty and learn about pursuing a Master's or PhD degree. Register now to receive a resource packet and create a prospect card for fellowship applications. Plus, attendees who stay until the end of the presentation will be entered into a raffle.

- Request for Research Participants from the University of Rochester: Survey Form

Tegra Myanna (they/them), a graduate student at the University of Georgia, is seeking participants for their dissertation research on Queer & Trans undergraduate engineers. Their study examines how campus climate and science identity predict sense of belonging among LGBTQIA (QT) undergraduate engineering students at institutes of technology compared to equally selective comprehensive universities. They are inviting all QT undergraduate engineering students to participate in this study. If you are interested, fill out the survey form linked above. Their email address is also provided in the form if you have any questions.

Their Business Conference is tentatively scheduled for March 2025 in NYC, read more here.

- Transgender First Scholarship: Applications due by December 31, 2024

TFS’s annual $2.5k scholarship is open to trans/non-binary+ college students of all majors. The application is relatively short, but it does ask for a blog/social media post (300-1000 words) on your experiences. Feel free to contact us for blog post guidance if you’d like to go that route.
