Sigma Nu Fraternity was founded in 1869 at the Virginia Military Institute as an honor Fraternity. Membership in Sigma Nu is more than just a few casual meetings, more than a place to hang out with your buddies, and more than just an impulse decision. Rather, it is a life-long commitment to our principles and beliefs, to your newly found friends and Fraternal family, and is inspired by our founding principles of Love, Truth, and Honor. In the over 140 years of Sigma Nu's existence and the over 20 years at the University of Rochester, members have prided themselves on the organization's strict non-hazing policy. Your mind, heart, and character will grow with Sigma Nu as you interact with your Brothers on a daily basis. Be it during a game of volleyball, a round of disc golf, or out at our White Rose Formal, you will feel the bonds of Brotherhood. At Sigma Nu, Brotherhood means responsibility, trustworthiness, respect, friendship, family, and fun. At Sigma Nu, we strive to be more than your run of the mill student group as expressed in our short creed, which all members hold dear to their hearts: To believe in the Life of Love, To walk in the Way of Honor, To serve in the Light of Truth - This is the Life, the Way, and the Light of Sigma Nu - this is the Creed of our Fraternity. Gender Exclusivity:
A member must be a man and have the character and bearing of a gentleman. As such, collegiate members should judge the qualifications of potential members solely on the content of their character and not their culture, pedigree or experience. 2.2 NO DUAL MEMBERSHIP. No Chapter shall elect or initiate into the FRATERNITY any member or former member of a General College Fraternity, except as provided by this Article. 2.3 NO HONORARY MEMBERS. No Chapter shall elect or initiate into the FRATERNITY any honorary member.
