The University of Rochester Rocketry Club is dedicated to competing in the NASA Student Launch competition in Huntsville, Alabama. Our mission is to design and construct a high-powered rocket, working collaboratively across various disciplines such as avionics and electronics, 3D modeling of rocket components, structural construction, and more. We aim to inspire and educate students about rocketry, giving them to pursue their passion for space exploration!

The Teams Behind the Launch

Teams and Responsibilities

The Electronics and Structures Team is responsible for the design and implementation of critical electronic components within the rocket. This includes creating circuit boards and schematic designs to ensure robust and reliable operations. Key areas of focus are:

Development of systems like altimeters to measure altitude accurately.

Integration of GPS modules for precise tracking and recovery.

Design and testing of the apogee detection system, which triggers key rocket events like parachute deployment. Additionally, this team oversees the structural integrity of the rocket, ensuring that all components are securely assembled and capable of withstanding extreme forces during launch and flight.

The 3D-Modeling Team specializes in translating conceptual designs into detailed 3D models. These models serve as the blueprint for constructing the rocket and allow for precise adjustments before manufacturing. Key responsibilities include:

Designing every rocket component with accuracy using CAD (Computer-Aided Design) software.

Collaborating with other teams to ensure that designs meet aerodynamic, structural, and electronic requirements.

Simulating the rocket's performance in various conditions to identify potential issues early. This team plays a vital role in visualizing the final rocket and ensuring all components work together seamlessly.

The Avionics Team focuses on the rocket's onboard electronics and flight control systems. This team ensures that the rocket can collect, process, and transmit data throughout its flight. Responsibilities include:

Programming microcontrollers and sensors for tasks such as telemetry and data logging.

Developing software for real-time monitoring of the rocket's performance.

Testing communication systems that allow ground control to track and receive data from the rocket during its mission. This team ensures the rocket operates autonomously and performs all planned maneuvers accurately.
