What is BEI?

In the US, Alzhimers is the 5th leading cause of death

In 2023, over 6.7 million Americans over the age of 65 passed away from Alzheimers. Tragically, Alzheimer's patients experience dementia, characteristic of their disease, which causes them to forget their friend, families, and lived experiences.

Brain Exercise Initiative is a national non-profit organization committed to helping "more seniors remember and thrive". Originally founded in UCLA, BEI has expanded to 70+ undergraduate institutions and continues to grow! Check out this video to learn more about our national BEI chapter:

In our Rochester Chapter, we aim to connect our local Alzhimers patients  to this revolutionary research, and ease the burden already placed on their families, by conducting the research ourselves.

Dr. Ryuta Kawashima's research has indicated that 30 minutes of simple cognitive exercises during 5 days of the week is directly correlated with improved mobility, memory, communication skills, and overall happiness! One patient was even seen walking 6 months after he lost the ability to do so!
