Mission
The mission of the ADSE chapter at the University of Rochester is to increase the representation and visibility of underrepresented groups (women, African Americans, Latinos/as, Native Americans, members of the LGBTQA community, people with disabilities, and DREAMers) in the STEM fields. The UR ADSE chapter will serve as a platform for the scholarship and professional development of minority students in the pursuit of advanced degrees and careers in STEM. Our goals are to connect scientists across our campus, showcase non-traditional career paths and minority experiences in academia, industry and government, and to educate students at all levels about opportunities in STEM.

The mission of the Association of Latin American Students (ALAS) is to create a Latin American community and provide support for people being away from home, especially for incoming grad students. Trying to connect with different cultures and creating bonds with them, socializing about the different and common things between them. The group maintains regular social gatherings including weekly sports events such as volleyball or soccer games.

Framed seeks to provide opportunities for graduate student-led curatorial projects, with a distinctly multi-disciplinary and critical approach. Further, it provides professional development opportunities to graduate students seeking careers in the GLAM sector (Galleries, Archives, Libraries, and Museums) by fostering connections with art institutions in the Rochester community while bringing international artists and curators to the UR campus.

Graduate Students of Color (GSOC) is an organization founded to celebrate and empower historically-marginalized voices at the University of Rochester. We stand by the University's motto of Meliora: to be ever better for racially-underrepresented students in the U of R community. Our goals are to promote graduate students to Learn about the diversity of cultures and experiences among students of Color; to Discover the avenues in which to grow and navigate within the graduate academy; to Heal the divisions between us due to the effects of white supremacy and global racial discrimination; and to Create spaces in which students of Color are respected and embraced within a predominately-white institution.

The Microphysiological Systems Network exists for students working in and/or are interested in learning about microphysiological systems (MPS) such as organ models, tissues chips, microfluidic systems. RIA was formed, in the spring of 2007. It is intended to serve as a platform for general social
mingling and interpersonal interactions among students of Indian origin in the University of
Rochester. RIA aims to foster our cultural bindings and encourage oneness on this campus by
creating an ensemble of all graduate, post-doctoral and under-graduate students as a well knit
community. For this purpose, RIA handles various affairs of a social nature such as Diwali
Dhamaka, Holi Night, Independence Day celebrations and many more.
In addition, we do our best to ensure a smooth transition in the lives of all Indian newcomers
who join us every year and become a part of our small community in this beautiful city of
Rochester.
But most important of all we try our best to make our time spent in Rochester as a myriad
collection of memories worth cherishing for the rest of our lives.
We invite all Indian students to become a part of this effort. Your suggestions will always be
heard with utmost attention. Through our collective efforts that we can create a better niche for
all of us.

The SPIE University of Rochester Student Chapter was founded in May 2009: a much-needed student organization that brings together graduate students with common interests in optics and/or imaging across the University. Inspired by the interdisciplinary nature of SPIE we have reached out to students from optics, biomedical engineering, physics, medical center, chemical engineering, and computer science. Our chapter currently has more than 70 members.
