Dear PASA members, 

The e-board is excited to share with you that preparations are well on the way for this year’s PASA Fall Showcase (art exhibition & show). As many of you know, the Fall Showcase is another unique opportunity for PASA to celebrate and spread awareness of the cultural diversity of our continent on this campus. 

For this year’s Fall Showcase our theme is “Sanaa: Africa through OUR lens”. ‘Sanaa’ being the Swahili word for art or beauty. The Fall Showcase and Art Exhibition will both be held on Saturday, November 2nd, 2019. The Art Exhibition will run from 2 pm - 4 pm at Havens Lounge / Hartnett Gallery (TBC). The Fall show will take place in May Room from 7 pm. Both events will be FREE. So please do invite your friends and host families to join us!

For the Showcase, we have invited other student organizations to perform alongside our affiliate groups. If you would like to participate in the show as an individual act please add your name to this form  with your proposed performance idea. 

Members are also encouraged to take part in our Art Exhibition. This year, we have decided to do a photography exhibition reflecting photos of everyday life on the continent, through the lens of young African photographers. The idea is to exhibit one photograph of ‘a day in the life’ in the African countries represented in PASA. Aligned with PASA’s purpose of promoting a greater understanding of the African continent, this exhibition displays ownership of our heritage, our art, our ‘Sanaa’. Africa has historically been depicted, interpreted and labeled from perspectives very different from those who actually call it home. This exhibition will reflect our home from the eyes of the lives that inhabit it. 

In order for us to execute this, we are kindly asking members to identify and suggest to the e-board a young photographer from their country whose work is worth exhibiting. You will have to send us their name & contact information (social media handle/email address), and we will reach out to them formally. Please identify a stand-by photographer, in case your first choice is not available to work with us. These photos will be up for sale during the exhibition, and if bought, all proceeds will go back to the photographer. This is an act of youth empowerment. If a member of PASA, is also a photographer, you are more than welcome to submit your own work. 

For an easier collaboration between e-board and members with regards to the selection of photographers, the e-board has identified one representative from each country, who will act as a liaison between us and country-mates. It is our hope that individual members from the same country will work together. Please check this sheet  to view your country liaison. If you do not find your country on the list, please contact us immediately. The deadline for submission is Tuesday, 15th of October 2019.   

If you have any artifacts/merchandise from back home and will like to sell them at the Art showcase, please include your name and the items you wish to table on this form .
