Hello URSGA,
This week, we have (as usual) a board games meeting on Monday, 7-11 pm in Douglass 401 and a trading card games (TCGs) meeting on Thursday, 7-11 pm in Wilco 122. Also, we have a couple of special events coming up: First, this Friday 2/28, 6 pm we have board games with Astronomy Club in the POA Library. Second, March One-Shots Night is Saturday 3/1 in Douglass 401, with two rounds of single-session RPG adventures: 3 pm and 7pm. You can be a player or a GM in a variety of RPG systems, including (but not limited to) D&D 5e. Beginners are welcome. Please fill out this form if you wish to attend. Also, there's an outside event we'd like to tell you about: Studio X's Xcalibur Game Jam. From their website, "From 10am March 1st to 6pm March 2nd, teams of up to four will work together to create a game (digital or physical) from scratch." A fun opportunity for the aspiring game designers among our members.
Next up is our recurring section about SIMCON, URSGA's annual tabletop gaming convention. SIMCON 46 will run from Friday, 3/21 to Sunday, 3/23, 2025 - that's just under one month away! It is free for U of R undergrads and you can preregister here. You (yes, you!) can also run an event at SIMCON - fill out this form before it closes on 2/28 if you have an event idea. Events can be anything from an RPG game, a tournament/competition, or just getting people together to play your favorite game. You could also be part of the team that runs SIMCON - fill out the volunteer form if that interests you. Also, we'll be painting the tunnel to advertise SIMCON during the 2/24 doard games meeting, and anyone who wishes can help us with that.
Finally, URSGA has bought new games. Dominion 2nd Edition, Dominion Intrigue, War of the Ring, Bang, Bristol 1350, Turing Machine, and the Mistborn Deckbuilding Game will all be available to play at URSGA meetings, and for club members to borrow.
Sincerely,
Jakob Riches
URSGA Secretary
Fun Fact: Bristol 1350 is about people betraying each other during a plague (specifically, the Black Death). Isn't it nice how games offer an escape from reality.
