Come hear Professor Huang speak about his research on Nature-Based Computing Systems: The state of the art and where to go from here. Nature apparently does a lot of computation all the time, solving differential equations, performing random sampling, and so on. If we can harness it to perform high-level computation, we ought to be able to obtain significant speed and efficiency advantages over conventional von Neumann computers. Many researchers are increasingly convinced that this is not a question of if, but how and when. In this talk, I will discuss a subset of these efforts -- physical Ising machines -- and discuss some lessons learned and perspectives gained from our own efforts building two different Ising machines at the University of Rochester.
