TL;DR: GIM is on Thursday, January 23rd at 8:00 p.m. in the Stackel Room (2nd floor of Wilson Commons).
Welcome back!
I hope your semester is off to a fantastic start and I'm excited to welcome you to our first meeting of the spring semester! The first of many changes for this semester is that we will now be meeting bi-weekly on Thursdays at 8:00 p.m. in the Stackel room. The Stackel room is on the second floor of Wilson Commons to the left of the staircase.
Updates
Over the course of last semester, the executive board has been engaged in a constant discussion regarding the direction to head with this organization. After reflecting on our goals and carefully reviewing the feedback given in our end-of-semester survey, we have decided to make a few changes to improve this club.
- Service: In our discussion, one thing that we agreed was lost sight of was our dedication to service. It's one thing to plan and prepare for service and it's another to get out there and do it. While there is a place for both, we decided that more frequent and more regular service opportunities are needed. After compiling a list of our community network, we are reaching out to various organizations around Rochester to find partners in need of regular assistance. We have transportation, we have a need - now we just need your help!
- Bi-weekly meetings: One of the common gripes seen in the feedback was that our meetings were not as productive as they could have been. I think this can be partially attributed to the excessive frequency of our meetings so we will be cutting back to meeting twice each month, as compared to weekly.
- More relevant speakers: Although I particularly enjoyed most of the speakers from last semester, there didn't seem to be much interest in having speakers join us weekly. So, as compared to weekly speakers, we will be inviting more relevant, less frequent guests to our meetings in an effort to keep them more relevant and shorter.
- Meeting style: This is something that we are still working on but please expect a change of pace for our meetings. If you have input, please reach out!
- Room location: If you didn't notice in the header, we will be meeting in the Stackel room for the remainder of the semester.
