History of Miss Black & Gold Pageant
Miss Black & Gold Pageant under the sponsorship of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc., is an outgrowth of the long tradition of Alpha Chapters designating outstanding young ladies to serve as role models to the community. The pageant highlights the achievements and accolades which women in our community have contributed and every year we crown a female undergraduate student who embodies our mission statement. The Fraternity recognizes the valuable support rendered to it by the many friends of Alpha Phi Alpha – and these endeavors serve as one mechanism to applaud such support.
As college students, we know the cost of attending a major college or university has increased in recent years. Assistance in any form is a necessary supplement to a matriculating student. This is why the brothers of Mu Sigma Chapter have initiated a scholarship into our Miss Black and Gold Pageant.
Proceeds from this event will facilitate a scholarship to be awarded to the winner of the Miss Black and Gold Pageant. It is our intention to award this scholarship to a female student who will be continuing her education as a full-time matriculated student at a college or university in the Rochester Area. This will not only insure that the student will receive monetary support but also moral and social support from students on our campuses and the members of the chapter.
