Join us for an evening with UR Trustee, Ed Hajim, author of On the Road Less Traveled and Island of the Four Ps, and previous chairman of the University of Rochester board. In recognition of his generosity, the University named the Edmund A. Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences in his honor in 2009.

Mr. Hajim will be sharing his perspectives on how to embrace curiosity early in your academic journey, build relationships, and begin to explore pathways that align with your interests and values. While primarily for students who are registered for or previously taken CASC 104 Designing Your Life, Mr. Hajim's message of exploration, connecting with others, and discovering your path will resonate with all students. Therefore, all class years and students are encouraged to attend.

Ed Hajim is the non-executive chairman of HighVista Strategies. For almost 20 years, he was chairman and CEO of Furman Selz LLC, an investment bank. Hajim sold Furman Selz LLC to Xerox in 1987 and bought it back in 1992. In 1997, he sold the business for the final time to ING. Earlier in his career, Hajim also held senior management positions at the Capital Group, E.F. Hutton, and Lehman Brothers. Hajim has served on the University of Rochester’s Board of Trustees for over 30 years. He was appointed chairman in 2008 and concluded his board chairmanship in 2016. In 2008, Hajim’s $30 million commitment to the University was the largest single gift commitment in the institution’s history and catalyzed the $1.2 billion Meliora Challenge fundraising campaign. In recognition of his generosity, the University named the Edmund A. Hajim School of Engineering & Applied Sciences in his honor in 2009.

He and his wife, Barbara, have provided more than 200 scholarships to students at the University and at other institutions. In 2015, the national Horatio Alger Association of Distinguished Americans recognized him as a renowned leader who grew out of humble beginnings to achieve success and demonstrate a commitment to philanthropy and education.
