Who are we?
Grassroots is the University of Rochester's premier environmental action and awareness group. We act to create a more sustainable future and to raise awareness of our collective and individual responsibilities as stewards of the earth and its natural environment. Grassroots strives to make an impact both on and off campus. We seek to improve the Greater Rochester community both by direct action (ex. river clean ups, site remediation), as well as by supporting local initiatives. We work to improve our own campus through improving resource use, re-purposing space for gardens, managing recycling, supporting local foods, and increasing awareness. Ongoing programs include a monthly Clothing Exchange, education about the campus recycling standard, our annual Earth Day celebration (including speakers, off campus trips, hands-on activities, and more), and various volunteer opportunities. Grassroots encourages new ideas, values differing perspectives, and welcomes all levels of interest. Together we work to create a more sustainable campus, community, and nation.
