Professor Zaino will be giving a talk on his experience as an Industrial Statistician:
There are many opportunities for statisticians in the private section. One of the many is as an Industrial Statistician. Having retired from 35 years working as a statistician in industry I can recommend it as an exciting and interesting career. Although corporate culture has radically changed over the past 50 years many of the experiences I can share are still relevant in 2020. The talk here focuses on a brief description of corporate culture with emphasis on where and how a person with skills and training in statistics can fit in that culture. Several examples of the types of problems encountered and how to be best prepared to tackle them will be discussed.
Outline: The Environment and Corporate Culture; How quasi-statistical trends influenced the culture (QFD, TQC, 6-Sigma, Taguchi); Organization (where a statistician fits) Collaboration; Some examples; Pointers to Success
